ABC 891 has lost overall ground in the latest radio ratings but its breakfast duo of Matthew Abraham and David Bevan have retained their lead in the key shift.
891 slipped one spot to third, with Mix FM extending its lead at number one and Nova taking back the number two position.
It was also a good survey for FIVEaa, with strong performances across the roster moving it within striking distance of 891.
However, in the breakfast shift Abraham and Bevan retained their dominance, surging 0.4 percentage points to hit 18.4 per cent of listeners.
FIVEaa’s breakfast team of David Penberthy, Mark Aiston and Jane Reilly also put on 0.4 points to retain second position (14.1 per cent). Mix’s Jodie Oddy and Mark Soderstrom kept third position, with Nova in fourth.
Embattled hit107 flatlined overall, but its breakfast shift sunk further. If the trend continues, even ABC FM breakfast looks like a threat to the struggling breakfast team of Amos Gill and Cat Lynch. hit107 will be counting the days until comedy stars Hamish and Andy return with a drive shift in July this year.
Triple M’s management will also be looking nervously at breakfast, where its star performers Mark Ricciuto and Chris Dittmar lost share to only just retain their lead over Triple J’s national program (7.7 to 7.5).
In the competitive Drive sports shift, FIVEaa’s Stephen Rowe and Mark Bickley pulled away from Triple M’s Andrew Jarman and Dale Lewis, extending their one point lead in the previous shift to a more comfortable 11.8 to 8.4 buffer. Jarman was the subject of recent controversy, being suspended for crude on-air comments at the end of this ratings period.
891’s smooth Drive operator Michael Smyth had a strong survey to overtake Triple M’s sports team. Mix is the overall leader in Drive followed by Nova.
In the evenings, veteran Jeremy Cordeaux is building the kind of dominance reminiscent of the halcyon days of “Big” Bob Francis.
Despite his 891 talk rival Peter Goers increasing his audience, Cordeaux built his listenership by a greater degree to extend his lead (17.6 to 14.3).
