Editor’s note: The new InDaily

Jun 14, 2013, updated May 09, 2025

Thanks to all the readers who have provided feedback on InDaily’s new website.

It’s now nearly two weeks since we relaunched and, with the exception of a few gremlins, the transition from the old to the new has been relatively smooth.

We are continuing to refine the website and fix bugs as they appear, so I hope you will all see a continuing improvement in the site’s performance and ease of use over the coming weeks.

While I’ve been gratified by the many readers who have provided very positive feedback, criticisms have also been invaluable.

In response, we’ve increased the bandwidth of our servers to speed up the site. We’ve also slowed down the moving “carousel” of stories on page 1, so readers have more time to read and consider before the next article appears. We’ll slow it even more if needed.

We’ve also done some technical work on the smartphone and tablet versions of the site to improve performance. Again, this is an ongoing process.

There has been some confusion about navigating the new site, particularly from loyal readers of the old InDaily website, so here are a few tips about how to negotiate the new site.

The home page

The day’s breaking news can be found here, both on the moving “carousel” of stories and on the right hand side of the page.

Unlike the old site, we’ll update these stories through the day if big news breaks.

You can move easily back and forth between the stories on the “carousel” by clicking on the arrows within each story’s picture, or on the white dots at the top right of the picture.

Moving from page to page

Stay informed, daily

We have maintained the left and right “arrows” that were a feature of the original InDaily, and gave readers the experience of reading the site like a newspaper, from front to back.

You can still do this on the new InDaily. Just click the “next” or “prev” arrows – found at the far left and right of your screen – to move from News to Opinion, Business, Sport etc, just as you did with the old InDaily.

Letters and comments

The new website allows us to enable online commenting on stories.

We haven’t done that yet, but we do plan to open up comments on specific stories in the future. Due to resource constraints, we won’t automatically open comments on every story.

However, we welcome letters at any time, which are published on the Opinion page.

Email us to provide your letter to the editor..

Back issues

There is a link to the old editions of InDaily at the bottom of each page on the site. The ‘back issues’ link will take you to archive.indaily.com.au where all of our previous material is kept.

Search

To find a recent story, use the search function, indicated by a magnifying glass icon at the top right of the web page.
